Community Clean Up

HomeBridge Community Clean Up Program
The spring of 2010 once again saw groups of HomeBridge youth and employees hit the streets with gloves and garbage bags in hand to clean up the communities that surround our facilities.
Funding for this program was secured through the Youth Development Initiative and HomeBridge’s Environmental Committee worked hard at bringing this event to life for the third year running. Both programs included an information session with the Sierra Club where the young people contributed to discussions about environmental issues and ways we can all contribute to waste reduction. The actual clean ups took place on separate days with a barbeque in the end to celebrate everyone’s efforts.
This year we focused on the area surrounding Cogswell House in Sackville including the near-by Junior High, trailer park, main streets and neighbouring park area and areas in Purcell’s Cove near Jubien House, which included the Frog Pond, near-by Elementary School and Junior High.
Not only were 85 bags of garbage, 20 bags of recyclables and countless large garbage items collected, but positive relationships were also built with the neighbours during our efforts. These types of positive interactions with the community can only help our efforts to affect change in the youth as it really does take a village to raise a child.
