HomeBridge Youth Prepare for their Annual Holiday Coffee House

The HomeBridge Community is a buzz with activity right now that can only be compared to that of Santa’s workshop. The Expression Program of the Arts Team and the youth are busy practicing musical acts and making one of a kind crafts in preparation for HomeBridge’s Annual Holiday Coffee House.

This event provides the young people with a venue to showcase their talents and take part in an event that is all about holiday fun. On the December 7th, the Reigh Allen Centre dinning hall will be transformed into a festive and intimate setting where HomeBridge employees and youth will perform musical acts, circus skill demos and other performance art pieces that they have practiced during the Expressions Program of the Arts. They will also display some of the art they have created in the program and have an opportunity to sell their crafts. Last year’s craft sale was a near sell out with guests proudly walking away with everything from birch reindeer to beautifully illuminated light boxes and hand made holiday cards.

Another highlight from last year was definitely the gingerbread house competition. All HomeBridge programs were provided with the basic supplies to build a gingerbread house and the challenge of creating their own facility. The “gingerbread facilities” were on display at the event for everyone to vote on and facility that got the most votes one a celebratory pizza party.

For some of the youth this is their first experience taking part in Christmas concert type event so it really fills an important right of passage in their lives and gives them a sense of normalsy. They take great pride in preparing for this event and you can see their self-confidence grown with every round of applause they hear and every happy customer who buys one of their crafts.
