It’s Showtime!

If you walk into any of HomeBridge’s six facilities right now you are bound to find a young person practicing piano or guitar, creating a one-of-a-kind piece of art, or working on mastering some kind of acrobatic pose or routine. Everyone is excitedly gearing up for the Expressions Program of the Arts performances and art show that are part of the organization’s Annual General Meeting later this month.

The Expressions program runs for September to June in all HomeBridge programs. This year, the team has been working with a theme of “Mind, Body and Soul” which has taken the young people through Tai Chi and Meditation, Flying Yoga, Circus Skills, Music Therapy and Art classes. For some, this is their first experience with any of these types of activities and it has really been an eye opening and rewarding experience. As the season winds down everyone is excited to showcase their new found skills and talents.

Whether they have volunteered to display a piece of personal art work, write a speech or take the stage to perform at this event, it takes a great deal of courage for these young people to put themselves out there. The incredible sense of pride and accomplishment that comes from being part of this showcase however, has a very positive affect on their self-esteem. It is an experience that many of the youth are still talking about weeks after they leave the stage and the sound of applause fades.

Please join us in celebrating the triumphs of these resilient young people during our Annual General Meeting and Expressions Art Exhibition on June 22, 2011 at 4:00 pm. The event is being held at the Nova Scotia Community College, Waterfront Campus in Dartmouth. It promises to be an unforgettable afternoon of talent and accomplishment. If you would like to attend simple RSVP to Lisa Jo Morin at 466-1439 ext 501 or lmorin@homebridgeyouth.ca.
