Turning Tee Time into Positive Impact

Oct 3, 2025

Skyline Charity Golf Classic

We, in the HomeBridge Community, have always believed in the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child”.  We are grateful that our village is always growing because of caring and community minded people who, like us, believe in the strength and resilience of vulnerable youth. The latest group to join our village is Skyline and they showed up in a big way when they turned tee time into positive impact.

Skyline, a capital management company based out of Ontario, recently raised $220,000 for five community organizations in four provinces through their Annual Charity Golf Classic and HomeBridge was very fortunate to be one of those community organizations. The tournament was held on September 11th, in Milton, Ontario, and brought together 300 attendees to support youth wellness in Canada.

“Empowering youth is one of the most powerful ways we can build strong, supportive, and sustainable communities for the future,” said Jason Ashdown, Co-Founder & Chief Sustainability Officer, Skyline.  “Our golf tournament event reflects our belief that responsible business is about creating meaningful, lasting positive change—which requires active engagement and support from our entire network. We are proud to support these organizations that offer critical programs on the front lines of youth wellness. None of this would be possible without the continued generosity and support of our suppliers, partners, staff, investors, Trustees, and the broader Skyline community.”

Their $44,000 contribution to HomeBridge will be used to support the budget for our Recreation Therapy program.  Recreation Therapists use forms of recreation, leisure, and play as healing modalities to support purposeful and meaningful interventions that are based on individual strengths and values, and are guided by assessments. This can look like fun activities such as kayaking or hiking, but a lot of life-skills are developed in this program.  For vulnerable youth, it is a powerful therapeutic tool that fosters healing, growth, and resilience in ways traditional approaches often cannot. Many young people who come into care carry the weight of trauma, disrupted relationships, and overwhelming challenges that can leave them feeling isolated and powerless. Recreation therapy creates a safe, supportive space where they can begin to rebuild trust, confidence, and hope.

Perhaps most importantly, Recreation Therapy reminds the young people that joy, play, and creativity are not luxuries; they are essential parts of healing. By reconnecting with these positive experiences, youth begin to reimagine what is possible for their future, seeing themselves not just as survivors of hardship, but as capable, strong, and worthy individuals.  This program has an incredibly positive impact on the young people and it would not be possible without the support of organizations like Skyline.  Their donation will fund outings and activities that will change the lives of vulnerable youth in Nova Scotia. We cannot thank Skyline, and everyone who took part in the golf tournament, enough for believing in HomeBridge and the young people served in our programs.
